Job summary

Boston Children’s Hospital is seeking an Environmental Services Floor Care Technician for the night shift to keep patient and public areas clean and safe.

You will operate powered machines, perform floor care, carpet cleaning, and respond to emergencies following hospital protocols.

Responsibilities

• Perform hard floor care incl. dust mops, damp mops, stripping, waxing, refinishing floors.
• Clean carpets and furniture; vacuuming and spot removal.
• Clean and maintain assigned areas including stairwells and elevators.
• Operate electric and battery powered cleaning equipment.
• Pick up supplies and pack regulated medical waste.
• Wear protective clothing per hospital protocols.
• Respond to floods and emergencies, dry and clean facilities.

Schedule will be 11pm-7:30am Monday through Friday and every other weekend and holidays

Key Responsibilities:

• Performing hard floor care: dust mops, damp mops, stripping, waxing, and refinishing floors; performing spray buffing
• Cleaning carpets and furniture. vacuuming, doing spot removal and shampoos
• Cleaning and maintaining assigned areas including stairwells and elevators
• Operating electric and battery powered equipment for cleaning services and rearranging of furniture/equipment
• Picking up supplies and packing regulated medical waste
• Wearing protective clothing as required (i.e.: surgery dress code, medical waste packing, ribavirin and/or isolation precautions, etc.)
• Responding to floods and other emergencies, drying and cleaning facilities and equipment as directed
• Using equipment to respond to emergency as directed and in accordance with hospital and department protocols to ensure personal and environmental safety is protected

Education: Experience:

• A min of 6 months of experience as a floor care technician 1 or equivalent experience
• Ability to operate powered machinery for buffing and stripping floors in a safe and effective manner
• The ability to read and understand written instructions in English
• The ability to understand and respond to moderately complex written or verbal instructions in English
• The ability to respond appropriately to instructions, questions or requests for information. Work requires contact with patients and/or visitors which involves courtesy
• The ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies

Environmental Service positions are currently eligible for a sign-on bonus of $1,000*
