Job summary

American Electric Power seeks a senior ES&H leader to drive the strategic direction of Environmental, Safety and Health programs across the operating company. You will provide leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, permit requirements, and company policies.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in physical or biological science, engineering, or related subjects.
• Experience: Eight or more years of related environmental, safety and health experience.
• Experience interpreting OSHA, EPA, OK Department of Environmental Quality, and permitting requirements.
• Strong understanding of environmental regulations including protected species, land use, wetlands, and air quality rules.
• Ability to research and interpret environmental and safety regulations and permit requirements.
• Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee environmental, safety, and health programs and continuous improvement efforts.
• Develop, implement, and communicate policies, procedures, standards, and program enhancements for regulatory compliance.
• Provide technical expertise and strategic guidance on environmental permitting and safety performance.
• Direct environmental audits, inspections, investigations, and corrective action programs.
• Anticipate, evaluate, and mitigate ES&H risks and advise on risk management.
• Coordinate regulatory reporting, permitting activities, and interactions with agencies and stakeholders.
• Lead development and implementation of prevention initiatives and hazard control strategies.
• Monitor conformance to ES&H standards and drive accountability and improvements.
• Manage resources, budgets, personnel, and staff development in ES&H.
• Chair safety committees and oversee hazard identification and performance monitoring.
• Support business planning by evaluating regulatory impacts on operations.
• Build partnerships with industry and regulatory bodies to advance ES&H objectives.
