EthosEnergy is looking for an experienced 2nd Shift Blaster/Erector to join our team at our Houston, TX Gas Turbine repair facility. In this hands‑on role, you will build, assemble, clean, blast, rig, lift, and support repair activities for steam and gas turbine components with limited supervision. Candidates should be comfortable working in a safety-focused shop environment where quality, attention to detail, teamwork, cleanliness, and respect for others are part of the daily expectations. Some travel to customer sites and other EthosEnergy facilities may be required. The ideal candidate will bring seven or more years of hands‑on experience in related mechanical, assembly, blasting, rigging, or turbine component work, along with one to three years of trades training or equivalent experience.
Job Responsibilities
- Document work results, clearances, inspection findings, customer-returned unit damage, and related data on required forms and reports.
- Follow EthosEnergy safety, quality, production, housekeeping, and teamwork standards each day.
- Set up and operate shop equipment, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, table grinders, key machines, hydraulic equipment, oxygen-acetylene torches, blast cabinets, and blast booths.
- Operate scissor lifts, cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment to lift and move nozzles, diaphragms, rotors, turbine cases, and related components.
- Clean, deburr, grind, bench, lap, blast, preserve, identify, and protect parts according to work instructions.
- Assemble, disassemble, and reassemble compressor bundles, cases, valves, seals, rotors, and related turbine components.
- Install and remove parts using heat, torque bolts to specification, stack compressor rotors, and support advanced assembly activities.
- Set up, check, and correct horizontal and vertical LSB processes, and learn and apply basic blading fundamentals as required.
- Measure dimensions, check clearances using a tribar, perform rotor float tests and bump checks, and operate the overspeed test pit.
- Identify and correct mechanical issues, including improper fits, misalignment, clearance problems, roundness issues, and related equipment concerns, or arrange for correction.
- Support temporary assignments outside the home department, including work at customer sites and other EthosEnergy facilities as needed.
Required Skills / Knowledge
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, complex drawings, sketches, specifications, charts, and related technical documentation.
- Working knowledge of shop mathematics, part terminology, tooling, and proper tool use.
- Able to set up and operate shop equipment, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, table grinders, key machines, hydraulic equipment, oxygen-acetylene torches, blast cabinets, and blast booths.
- Able to operate scissor lifts, cranes, forklifts, and rigging equipment to safely lift and move turbines and compressor components.
- Knowledge of blasting, grinding, lapping, benching, deburring, preservation, identification, and part protection processes.
- Ability to assemble, disassemble, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair turbine and compressor components, including rotors, bundles, cases, seals, valves, nozzles, and diaphragms.
- Knowledge of torquing, heat-assisted installation and removal, LSB processes, basic blading fundamentals, rotor float testing, bump checks, and overspeed testing.
- Proficient in measuring dimensions and checking clearances using precision measuring tools, including a tribar.
- Ability to identify and correct mechanical fit, alignment, clearance, roundness, and equipment issues, or coordinate corrective action as needed.
- Ability to complete required documentation accurately, including work results, inspection findings, clearances, and customer-returned unit reports.
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, productivity, housekeeping, teamwork, and respectful workplace practices in a shop environment.
Experience
- Equivalent to one to three years trades training.
- Seven or more years’ experience
Education Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work a 3:30 PM-12:00 AM shift; overtime may be required based on business needs.
- Ability to lift more than 25 lbs. without assistance.
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
