Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Grand Rapids is seeking experienced Veterinary Technicians to cover relief shifts in our busy Emergency and Critical Care department. You will work in a fast-paced environment, triage emergencies, monitor patients, and provide care to critically ill or injured pets.

Qualifications

• Experienced Veterinary Technicians sought for emergency and critical care support.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive, monitor vitals including temperature, heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography with proper patient positioning.
• Understand normal vital sign ranges and alert the Veterinarian to changes.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vitals; act on changes as needed.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Calculate medical dosing and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Place and maintain IV catheters in peripheral vessels and perform phlebotomy.
• Place feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Mentor and train other co-workers.
• Address client concerns with patience and empathy.
