Job summary

Emergency Veterinary Hospital of Springfield is seeking a Veterinary Assistant to support our 13 doctors in a 24/7 ER practice. Full-time shifts include 3-12s or 4-10s, with a pay range of $20–$25 per hour. Benefits include PTO, EAP, 401K, medical, vision, and life/AD&D insurance options.

The role focuses on assisting veterinarians and technicians, ensuring pet safety and comfort, and delivering compassionate care in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• NAVTA-approved Veterinary Assistant program preferred.
• One year of experience in a pet care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Clean, disinfect, and prepare exam rooms, medical equipment, and surgery between each appointment.
• Obtain initial patient information, medical histories, vaccination records, and the reason for the visit; document and update records.
• Calm, soothe, comfort, and restrain pets before, during, and after procedures.
• Monitor and record physical status and vital signs, especially post-surgery.
• Provide owners with education and resources on pet care as directed by veterinarians.
• Assist with basic health checks and procedures under supervision.
