Job summary

Fairview Health Services is seeking an Emergency Room Technician (ERT) to join the ED team at University of Minnesota Medical Center (East Bank) in Minneapolis, MN. The ERT assists the professional nurse in delivering patient care, transporting patients and equipment, setting up rooms, and managing supplies.

The role requires active involvement in patient care activities, documentation, and room readiness, with responsibilities adjusted by the RN.

Qualifications

• Must have BLS certification; one of the listed certifications or a current student in nursing programs may qualify.
• Experience in acute, long-term, or home care is considered relevant.
• Understanding of infection control and patient privacy standards.

Responsibilities

• Transports patients by wheelchair and cart
• Assists patients with ambulation and positioning
• Informs RN of patient observations and concerns
• Responds to patient call lights/requests
• Adheres to dignity, privacy, and confidentiality standards
• Performs tasks with patient-age appropriate adaptations
• Obtains ordered specimens and transports them as required
• Assists with resuscitation and acts as nurse extender
• Documents care activities clearly and promptly
• Maintains rooms, supplies, and carts; completes checklists
• Reports equipment discrepancies and malfunctions
