Job summary

HorseShoe Beverage Company seeks a patient care assistant to support healthcare providers by preparing patients for visits, enhancing patient flow, and assisting with routine check-in procedures in a clinical setting.

Under supervision, duties include collecting vital signs, performing basic lab draws, EKG preparation, wound cleansing, assisting during minor procedures, sanitizing exam rooms, and ensuring stock and equipment are ready for efficient clinic operations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One year of patient care experience preferred.
• Certification in MA, CNA, EMCT, or PCT required.
• BLS certification or ability to obtain within 30 days of hiring; ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

• Collects and documents patient data during check-in and triage.
• Performs lab draws and basic tests; packages samples for processing.
• Identifies unusual findings and reports to healthcare professional.
• Under RN supervision, performs EKG, wound cleansing, vital signs, and monitor leads.
• Prepares exam room and assists during minor procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes exam room and maintains stock and supplies.
• Participates in competency programs for saline lock insertion, IV, and Foley insertion.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Description

Performs a variety of patient care activities appropriate to the patient population to contribute to healthcare by preparing patients for visits and enhancing patient flow in accordance with established department policies, standards, procedures and compliance with regulations

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (include, but not limited to the following)

• Asdirectedandsupervisedbyhealthcareprofessional,collectsand documentsavarietyofroutinepatientdataaspartofcheckinprocedures and/or Triage procedure including,butnotlimitedto:height,weight,temperature,pulse,respiration,bloodpressure,andglucosescreen.
• Performs lab draws and basic tests; seals and packages for processing bylaboratory and Point of Care testing.
• Identifies and reports unusual findings or observations, clinical symptoms, behaviors and treatment reactions to appropriate healthcare professional.
• Under general supervision of the RN, performs assigned procedures including, but not limited to: electrocardiogram testing (EKG), wound cleansing, initial, repeat and orthostatic vital sign measurements, application of monitor leads, specimen collection.
• Preparesexamroomforprocedures,organizesinstrumentsandequipment;assistshealthcareproviderduring minor procedures.
• Cleans and sanitizes exam room and fixtures by removing soiled materials/instruments, replacing exam paper sheets and wiping counter areas to provide for efficient roomturns.
• Performsvisualinventoryofstockandlaboratoryitems;re-ordersitemstoprovideforavailabilityofsuppliesforoptimumefficientclinic operations
• Participates in and completes a Hospital competency program in Saline lock insertion, IV discontinuation and Foley insertion for adult and pediatric patients twelve years of age and older

Requirements

• One year of patient care experience preferred
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent required
• Certification in any one of the following areas: Medical Assistant Certification (MA), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Emergency Medical Care Technician (EMCT) or Patient Care Technician (PCT), required
• BLS certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire, ACLS preferred
