Job summary

University Medical Center of El Paso is seeking a Patient Care Technician for the Emergency Department to support nursing care under supervision. You will assist with ADLs, communicate patient status, and help promote a safe, cost-effective environment during day shifts.

The role emphasizes strong communication, clinical skills in ED, and collaboration with registered nurses. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred, with BLS required and relevant EMT/PCT training fulfilled.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Completion of EMT-A, Patient Care Technician, or Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Six months of experience as an Advanced EMT or CMA is preferred.
• Current BLS training is required.
• One of the following certifications required: EMT-A, RMA/CMA, Medical Assistant with Phlebotomy, or Patient Care Technician.

Responsibilities

• Functions as a key member of the Emergency Department nursing care team under direct training of RN, Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Director.
• Assists with activities of daily living (ADL) for patients and documents status.
• Promotes exceptional customer service with patients and families.
• Makes recommendations for improved patient care and safe, cost-effective environment.
• Communicates patient status and documents changes for the care team.
