Job summary

Cerro Alto Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Hospital in San Luis Obispo, CA, seeks an ER/ICU Relief Veterinary Assistant to support emergency doctors and staff in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment.

You will triage, assist with diagnostics and treatments, monitor patients after anesthesia, and communicate care updates with clients, joining a team dedicated to high‑quality care and professional development.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a veterinary assistant (required).
• Experience in a specialty and/or emergency veterinary hospital (required).
• Strong clinical skills including but not limited to: IVC placement, patient monitoring, restraint, and phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Triage and intake of patients, present to the emergency doctor.
• Coordinate diagnostics, labs, and imaging.
• Monitor patients post-anesthesia or sedation and report changes.
• Provide hands-on care, including critical care monitoring and CPR.
