Job summary

Janus Henderson Group is seeking an Equity Research Analyst for its US Equity division focused on Energy & Materials. You will conduct independent research, build financial models, and deliver insights to Portfolio Managers.

Ideal candidates have 3–5 years in equity research (buy-side preferred) with deep sector expertise, strong leadership, and collaborative skills. Hybrid work setup, comprehensive benefits, and development opportunities are available.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of equity research or investment analyst experience (buy-side preferred) or MBA with at least 2 years post-MBA experience.
  • Expertise in energy and materials sectors plus strong analytical capabilities and curiosity.
  • Proven stock-picking ability with a track record of generating value through investment recommendations.
  • Strong financial modeling skills to forecast revenue, earnings, and cash flows.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct independent research to formulate investment recommendations in energy & materials.
  • Build models to forecast revenue, earnings, and cash flows; identify key drivers.
  • Engage with industry players to deepen market knowledge.
  • Communicate findings to Portfolio Managers via notes, reports, and presentations.
  • Contribute to broader team priorities as needed.

Your opportunity
  • Conduct research independently to formulate investment recommendations on individual securities within the energy and materials sectors, giving careful consideration to forecasted growth, competitive positioning, quality of financial reporting and management
  • Construct models to identify the key questions that need to be answered in the research process, determine critical drivers and forecast future revenue, earnings and cash flows
  • Undertake research visits and meetings to develop and deepen industry expertise, including engagement with competitors, customers, suppliers and other relevant constituents
  • Compile and communicate research findings with Portfolio Managers through written notes, reports, and presentations
  • Contribute to broader team priorities and other responsibilities as needed

Must have skills
  • Four-year degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field
  • 3-5 years of experience as an equity research or investment analyst, ideally within a buy-side environment; or alternatively an MBA with at least 2 years post-MBA experience
  • Expertise within the energy and materials sectors, coupled with strong analytical capabilities, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to identify differentiated investment opportunities across the global energy, power and materials ecosystem
  • Demonstrated stock-picking ability, with a proven track record of generating value through investment recommendations
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including proficiency in building and maintaining financial models to forecast future revenue, earnings, and cash flows
  • Highly self-motivated, proactive, and results-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex investment ideas clearly, concisely, and persuasively to a range of audiences
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement, and make well-reasoned investment decisions, while also contributing effectively within a collaborative team environment
  • Strong relationship-building and interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop credibility and influence with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellence, with a willingness to go above and beyond to support investment performance and contribute to the success and growth of the business
Nice to have skills
  • Post-graduate degree such as MBA, CFA and/or CPA

Compensation information

The base salary range for this position is $150,000 - $200,000. This range is estimated for this role. Actual pay may be different. This position will be open through August 31, 2026.
