Job summary

Morningstar is seeking an experienced Portfolio Manager to join the Select Equities team in Chicago, leading a U.S. growth strategy. You will build high‑conviction growth portfolios, conduct rigorous company analysis, and participate in peer reviews while engaging with financial advisors and clients.

The ideal candidate has 10+ years of investment experience (buyside preferred), a track record in growth equity, and strong communication and analytical skills; CFA is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years’ professional investment experience with at least 5 years on the buyside.
  • Strong preference for relevant experience as a portfolio manager and/or analyzing growth companies.
  • Alignment with Morningstar’s philosophy and approach to investing in equities.
  • Demonstrates intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in learning new subjects, industries, and companies.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent critical thinking skills with a focus on company analysis and valuation.
  • Bachelor's degree; CFA designation strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

The Investment Management group is guided by Morningstar’s investment principles focused on delivering great long‑term investment results to help end‑investors reach their financial goals. We use our expertise in asset allocation, research, investment selection and portfolio construction to create world‑class investment strategies leveraging the full resources of Morningstar, Inc. Through our investment offerings, we serve financial advisers and institutions, and the investors that they serve.

The Role

The Select Equities team manages 6 distinct separate account strategies with a combined $10 billion of AUA as of Dec. 31, 2025. We are looking to add an experienced investment professional to join the team as a Portfolio Manager for our U.S. growth strategy. The Select Equities Team constructs high‑conviction portfolios, with most of our separately managed accounts holding 25‑50 stocks.

While Chicago is the preferred location for this role, we welcome applications from qualified candidates located in other locations.

Total Cash Compensation Range

$195,600.00‑299,916.66

Inclusive of annual base salary and target incentive.
