Job summary

Western States Equipment is seeking an on-site Yard Operations Specialist in Idaho to manage daily logistics for receiving, staging, and shipping equipment and attachments. You will track equipment status, maintain safe work areas, and coordinate with multiple teams to ensure efficient yard operations.

The role requires 1+ year in logistics or yard operations, strong safety awareness, and the ability to onboard and train staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Maintains day-to-day logistics processes and documentation for receiving, staging, and shipping in the yard.
  • Tracks equipment status, condition, availability, and location using various platforms.
  • Steam cleans equipment with a safe, clean work area.
  • Communicates with all departments and responds to inquiries promptly and professionally.
  • Maintains yard facilities, fencing, signage, and grounds.
  • Assists with minor equipment maintenance and repair coordination.
  • Provides guidance to Equipment Yard Attendants and yard personnel.
  • Onboards and trains new employees on safety and yard processes.
  • Acts as local expert for yard operations and logistics procedures.
  • Identifies process improvement opportunities.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains day-to-day logistics processes and documentation for receiving, staging, and shipping equipment and attachments in the yard.
  • Uses various technology platforms and reporting tools to track equipment status, condition, availability, and location.
  • Steam cleans equipment ensuring cleaning area is safe, clean, and free of all debris.
  • Maintains consistent communication with all departments, and responds to all client, employees, vendor inquiries in a prompt, professional and friendly manner.
  • Ensures yard facilities, fencing, signage, and grounds are maintained and operational
  • Assists with minor equipment maintenance and repair coordination
  • Provides day-to-day guidance and direction to Equipment Yard Attendants and yard personnel.
  • Assists with onboarding and training of new employees on safety procedures, equipment operation, inventory systems, and yard processes.
  • Serves as the local subject matter expert for yard operations and logistics procedures.
  • Assists management in identifying process improvement opportunities and operational efficiencies.
  • Coordinates workforce coverage and daily task assignments during employee absences.

Knowledge Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to Travel 25% of the time and work overtime with little or no notice.
  • Ability to effectively train and collaborate with personnel on various technology platforms, Microsoft Teams, and Procurement team.
  • Proven customer service skills.
  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft computer products or other comparable systems required.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Consistent attendance and timeliness.

Education And Experience

  • Valid driver's license required. Must be eligible to operate a company vehicle and meet company driving standards.
  • Proof of high school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • 1 year operating or certification in construction equipment, required.
  • 1 year training or supervisory experience required.
  • 1 year inventory and logistics, preferred.
  • 1 year of facility/yard maintenance experience, preferred.
  • Must be able to communicate (speak, read, comprehend, write in English).

Physical Characteristics

  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time along with walking, standing, climbing stairs, reaching pushing, pulling, leaning and twisting.
  • Must be able to meet all safety requirements for applicable safety policies.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures and environment.
  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. in accordance with Western States’ Lifting Policy to include amount and approach.
