Job summary

Akron Children's is seeking an Equipment Technician to maintain unit-based equipment and supplies in the NICU at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. This full-time role (40 hours/week) requires on-site work, with typical daytime hours Monday through Friday.

You will support nursing units under supervision, inspect incoming supplies, manage par levels, and enter requisitions in the hospital system. A high school diploma and healthcare exposure are preferred.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Possesses a valid State driver’s license and ability to obtain insurability as determined by ACH insurance carrier requirements.

  • Supports nursing units under supervision of Nurse Manager and Clinical Coordinator.
  • Inspects and receives incoming supplies and distributes to proper storage locations.
  • Checks stock rotation and expiration dates; maintains par levels and makes recommendations for adjustments.
  • Enters requisition orders in the hospital computer system and performs charge entry as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Performs routine equipment quality checks and assists with room turnovers and inventory management.

Full Time (40 hours per week)

M-F Days, Primarily 7:00am to 3:30pm or 8:00am to 4:30pm

Onsite for NICU @ St. Elizabeth Medical Center

Summary

The Equipment Technician maintains unit-based equipment and supplies at appropriate par levels.

Responsibilities
  • Works under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, with the support of the Clinical Coordinator or designee.
  • Provides support to a nursing unit by maintaining unit-based equipment and supplies at appropriate par levels.
  • Inspects and receives all incoming supplies and distributes to proper storage location in a timely manner.
  • Checks and ensures stock rotation and expiration dates.
  • Maintains Par levels, makes recommendations to the Unit Manager for adjustment to Pars based on utilization data.
  • Enters requisition orders in the hospital computer system.
  • Performs charge entry and other duties as assigned or requested.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff.
  • Completes routine quality checks on equipment, may set up specific equipment after competency training, assist with room turnovers; maintains room stock levels, orders supply and equipment from central stores; and assists with inventory management; and other duties as required.
  • Other duties as required.
Technical Expertise
  • Experience using general mechanical skill, ability to understand medical terminology and relate it to the equipment and supplies is required.
  • Experience as an EMT or Medical Assistant training is preferred.
  • Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.
  • Experience in healthcare is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required.
Education and Experience
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certification: None.
  • Years of relevant experience 0 to 2 years is preferred.
  • Years of experience supervising: None.
  • Possesses a valid State driver's license and ability to obtain and maintain insurability as determined by the ACH insurance carrier's requirements.
  • An annual physical is required to be completed with the Akron Children's Hospital Employee Health Department.
