Job summary

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking an Equipment Technician for Clara Maass Medical Center's Operating Room. The role supports surgical teams by assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting OR equipment to ensure sterile, ready-to-use environments.

The position requires HL diploma and BLS certification, with a day shift from 11am to 7pm, Monday through Friday, at Clara Maass Medical Center in New Jersey.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent secondary education credential.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and knowledge of surgical equipment, accessories, and biomedical safety tracking.
• Ability to perform safe techniques with healthcare products according to manufacturer specifications and Medical Center policies.
• Effective communication and teamwork skills in a fast‑paced, sterile environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare surgical environments by assembling equipment, supplies, and instruments for operative procedures.
• Assist the surgical team with room preparation, patient transport to and from the OR, and patient positioning.
• Support nursing staff with direct patient personal needs including changing gowns, providing blankets, and cleansing.
• Perform preventative user maintenance on OR equipment by maintaining wheels, hinges, hardware, and replacing filters.
• Inspect physical components such as hoses, cords, cuffs, fiber optic cables, and bulbs to ensure operational safety.
• Conduct specialized equipment checks on Castle Sterilizers, Bipolar/Electrosurgical units, CUSA machines, Skytron tables, and Neurosurgery microscopes.
• Manage video and boom systems across Orthopedics and General/GYN specialties by dusting daily, replacing printer ink/paper, and resetting standards.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and configuration problems associated with surgical video equipment and specialized medical accessories.
• Serve as a Biomedical liaison to track safety inspection labels, manage product recalls, and coordinate external repairs.
• Maintain strict aseptic technique and hospital protocols during all decontamination, cleaning, and preparation processes.
• Collaborate across departments by running critical errands to other nursing units and medical center teams.
