Job summary

Metzler-Forest-Products,-LL is seeking an experienced operator to run a chipper at a jobsite in West Virginia. The role involves daily equipment maintenance, monitoring chip quality, and adjusting the chipper to maintain output while keeping the work area clean and safe.

You will coordinate with the Supervisor and crew to ensure a steady supply of material for chipping, inspect and service wear parts, and report any issues promptly to keep operations running smoothly.

Qualifications

  • Previous logging equipment operating experience.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Operates equipment at jobsite location.
  • Maintains equipment on a daily basis and ensures chip quality.
  • Monitors chip quality and adjusts chipper as needed.
  • Directs crew members to ensure wood is available for chipping as required.
  • Informs Supervisor of any equipment or jobsite issues.
  • Inspects chipper daily and replaces or repairs wear parts as needed.
  • Keeps Supervisor informed of all equipment issues and truck needs.
  • Maintains shop trailer and ensures it is stocked for efficient operation.

Job description

Key ResponsibilitiesOperates equipment at jobsite location.Maintains equpiment on a daily basis.Responsible for chip quality and quantity chipped every day. Monitors chip quality and adjusts chipper as needed. Monitors feedstock as it relates to chip quality and provides feedback to Supervisor.Takes responsibility for condition and performance of chipper. Informs appropriate staff when chipper is not performing as needed. Inspects chipper daily including but not limited to fluid levels, tire pressure, flail chain, counter knives, anvil and replaces or repairs these items as needed. Maintains awareness of wear parts including face plates etc. Takes responsibility for condition and performance of chipper.Directs crew members as needed to ensure wood is available to chip at all times. Informs Supervisor of any issues that result in unproductive chipping.Communicates with Supervisor regarding availability of chips and material.Communicates with service department regarding major equipment repair needs.Keeps Supervisor aware of all equipment issues, job site conditions and truck needs.Monitors condition of support equipment daily.Operates and maintains equipment as assigned and according to company standards.Maintains awareness of jobsite conditions and takes appropriate action to maintain jobsite conditions at company standard.Maintains shop trailer. Ensures that shop trailer is stocked with appropriate supplies to efficiently operate chipper.Follows all safety standards and safeguards.Understanding of logging practices and procedures. Knowledge of material classification including the understanding of chip quality, saw log quality and feedstock quality.Previous logging equipment operating experience.Basic understanding of mechanical systems and processes. Preferably understanding of forestry or construction equipment.Valid state driver’s license.Be Professional:We set the standard for everything we do.
