Description
ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

This position reports to the Construction Manager.

This position is being sourced for Midstream Integrity Services (MIS).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Equipment Operator is a key role in the execution of pipeline maintenance, cathodic protection projects, and right-of-way maintenance. This position involves operating and maintaining heavy machinery and specialized equipment used in various field activities. The Equipment Operator ensures that machinery is used safely and efficiently to meet project requirements while maintaining compliance with industry standards and regulations.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, trenchers, and other machinery required for pipeline excavation, cathodic protection installations, and right-of-way maintenance.
  • Perform pre- and post-operation inspections to ensure equipment is in safe and functional condition.
  • Transport, load, and unload equipment to and from project sites as needed.
  • Assist with site preparation, excavation, and backfilling operations, ensuring precision and adherence to project specifications.
  • Support cathodic protection installations by operating machinery for tasks such as trenching, test station placement, and anode installation.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, such as maintaining proper clearances and avoiding underground utility damage during excavation.
  • Communicate with the project supervisor to understand job scope, specifications, and timelines.
  • Perform basic maintenance and minor repairs on equipment as required to ensure optimal performance.
  • Complete equipment logs, inspection reports, and other documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the field team to ensure smooth project execution, providing support for additional tasks as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or ability to obtain one as required.
  • Certification or formal training in heavy equipment operation is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating heavy equipment in construction, pipeline, or maintenance projects.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations, safe digging practices, and utility location procedures (e.g., 811 "Call Before You Dig" compliance).

REQUIRED SKILLS / ABILITIES

  • Proficient in operating a variety of heavy machinery with skill and precision.
  • Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Awareness of safety requirements for heavy equipment operation and excavation work.
  • Ability to read and interpret site plans, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Strong communication skills for coordinating with field personnel and project supervisors.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity to work in challenging outdoor conditions and perform manual tasks when necessary.
  • Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy in equipment operation and documentation.
  • Flexibility to travel to job sites and work extended hours as required by project schedules.

PHYSICAL AND TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, squat, climb stairs and ladders, push, pull, reach, grasp and grip, use finger dexterity, write, drive, or operate equipment daily.
  • Must be able to lift/carry up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to extreme temperatures.
  • Must be able to travel to various job sites.
  • Required to work weekends and holidays.
  • Required to work hours other than 8 to 5.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment provided by the employer and comply with all safety requirements.
