Position Summary:
The Sanitary Sewers department is responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing the City’s sanitary sewer system, performing infrastructure rehabilitation, and monitoring contractors' work. The Equipment Operator is an entry-level role, serving as part of a crew to perform field duties, assessments, and rehabilitation of the sewer system. The role may also require work within the Underground Utilities department as directed.
This position is responsible for providing reliable utility services and requires prompt responses to emergency repairs outside normal hours.
Job Dimensions:
The primary duties include operating and maintaining the sanitary sewer system, performing locate services for all City utilities (water, sewer, storm sewer), and safely operating heavy and light construction equipment and related mechanical and electronic tools such as vehicles, CCTV, sewer grouting, sewer cleaning equipment, dump trucks, excavation tools, GPS, and locating equipment. Effective communication with co-workers, supervisors, and the public is essential. Adherence to City policies and procedures is required.
Secondary duties may include tasks related to water distribution and metering systems, snow removal, and assisting other departments as needed.

- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid Class B CDL with tanker and air brake endorsements or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Experience in underground utilities or related fields such as construction, plumbing, HVAC, electrical, or similar is desirable
- Ability to obtain an Ohio EPA Class I Collections license within 18 months of hire
- Residency as required by the city
Desired skills include extensive knowledge of water distribution, sanitary collection systems, and storm sewer systems.
