Job Description
Position Summary:

The Underground Equipment Operator is an entry-level position responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical underground distribution systems. The role involves working at various locations and may require travel to other states based on customer demands.

Essential Functions
  1. Work safely during construction, maintenance, or repair of energized and de-energized underground systems.
  2. Assist with installing underground transformers.
  3. Help replace fuses in transformers and clear faulted circuits and systems.
  4. Work around energized high voltage systems with caution to ensure safety.
  5. Maintain company vehicles, equipment, and tools.
  6. Perform physically demanding tasks.
  7. Use company radio properly.
  8. Operate heavy equipment and understand basic rigging.
  9. Use and maintain hand tools correctly.
  10. Follow directions and learn material properties.
  11. Identify primary and secondary voltages and be familiar with induced voltage.
  12. Assist with installation and hookup of single-phase transformers.
  13. Understand equipment setup, grounding, and working at heights or in confined spaces.
  14. Check transformer voltages and follow flag and tag procedures.
  15. Install and remove services and inspect PPE and rubber goods.
  16. Understand PPE usage and proper material identification.
  17. Work live on high voltage lines with gloves.
  18. Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  19. Perform other related duties as required.
Minimum Requirements
  1. At least 5 years of recent field experience.
  2. Effective communication skills in English.
  3. Ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License permit within 60 days.
  4. Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  5. Ability to travel long distances on short notice.
  6. Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
  7. Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands

Requires talking, hearing, standing, walking, handling, feeling, and reaching. Must meet physical requirements to perform essential functions.

Work Environment

Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, mechanical parts, vibration, and extreme outdoor conditions. Noise levels can be loud.
