Job Summary:
Operates all types of gasoline/diesel powered industrial trucks (over 26,000 GVW) and heavy equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of parish infrastructure, including lights, streets, sewer, and storm drainage systems.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Drives and operates all types of gasoline/diesel powered industrial trucks (over 26,000 GVW) and heavy equipment with lifting devices such as forklifts, booms, scoops, lift beams, swivel hooks, fork grapples, clamps, elevating platforms, or trailer hitches to move products, materials, and equipment.
- Operates equipment including backhoe, road grader, grader, bulldozer, excavator, dump truck, tractor, packer, cherry picker, front end loader, and dragline.
- Performs minor repairs and routine maintenance, such as cleaning, lubrication, battery recharging, and refueling, and reports mechanical issues.
- Operates bulldozer, front end loader, and other heavy machinery following safety procedures and instructions.
- Assists in installation and maintenance of traffic control signage and markings.
- Monitors and maintains equipment and facilities, including pumps and pump stations, ensuring proper operation and cleanliness.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor, including assisting repair personnel and controlling traffic at work sites.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Directly supervises other equipment operators and laborers within the department, including training, work planning, performance appraisal, and conflict resolution.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED plus at least five (5) years of related experience and/or training. Alternatively, seven (7) years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required; must obtain Louisiana license within 30 days if applying with a non-Louisiana license.
- Knowledge of heavy industrial equipment operation, safety procedures, and general construction/contracting methods.
