Job description

HOURS ARE MONDAY-FRIDAY 8:00 AM-4:00 PM


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Operates light, medium and heavy vehicles, power tools, trucks, snow plows, salt and brine spreaders, grass cutting and other equipment.
  2. Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of streets, sidewalks, vacant lots and alleys, and under supervisory authority transports employees, equipment, tools and power tools to and from work sites.
  3. Operates dump trucks, pick-up, stake bed, snow removal and treatment equipment, mowing equipment, roller, concrete saw, whacker, air hammer compressor, tamper, street repair and lane painting equipment, chainsaw, and other tools and equipment.
  4. Transports tools, equipment and personnel to and from worksites and removes equipment from trucks.
  5. Performs street maintenance labor duties as required according to seasons, needs, and division priorities.
  6. Heats liquid asphalt, patches potholes, cleans equipment and ensures that tack pot and hose are cleaned and in proper working order for subsequent jobs.
  7. Assists in the erection of closures and operations of pumping plants.
  8. Performs maintenance work on flood wall, fills holes on levee and cuts grass.
  9. Maintains and makes minor repairs to equipment and cleans streets, buildings and equipment.
  10. Logs and keeps records of daily operations.
  11. Operates skid steers, tractors, roll-offs, bucket trucks, packers, sweepers, water and vac trucks and other light and medium equipment and hand held tools.
  12. Boards access to vacant buildings and structures.
  13. Collects, transports and disposes of dead animals and other debris from roadways.
  14. Pours and smoothes concrete and installs guardrails and pipe.
  15. Cleans vacant lots picking up debris and cutting grass.
  16. Loads vehicles on pay loader for the purpose of cleaning up trash and debris from vacant lots.
  17. Performs related work.

WORK EXPERIENCE:

One year of experience operating trucks, working with motor vehicles or small tools and equipment.

EQUIVALENCY:

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.

OTHER MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Must submit to and pass pre-employment and random alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the Department of Transportation.
  2. Must wear safety equipment as mandated by OSHA.
  3. Must be on 24 hour call.
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess and maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement or obtain within three months of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

Meets regular and punctual attendance standards and any special needs of the position as determined by management, including mandatory overtime and performing related work. Spends prolonged periods of time sitting, standing, walking, carrying, stooping and climbing. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds in a team setting. Spends prolonged periods of time exposed to the elements.

  • Pay Progression:
    • Step 1: $19.53/hour – 0-3 Months
    • Step 2: $20.33/hour - 3-6 Months
    • Step 3: $20.89/hour – 6+ Months
  • Class A CDL with Tanker Endorsement: $1.15 per hour
