Job summary

The Public Works Department in Hattiesburg is seeking an Equipment Operator to handle operations of various construction and maintenance equipment. The successful candidate will perform daily maintenance, work effectively with others, and may supervise a small team. A 'Class A' commercial driver’s license and experience are required.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience is desired.
  • Must have and maintain a valid 'Class A' Mississippi commercial driver’s license.

Job description

Position: Equipment Operator
Department: Public Works
Division: Streets

Rate of Pay: $15.00/hr.

Nature of Work:
Skilled work in the operation of light- and heavy-duty construction maintenance equipment. Operator is responsible for daily preventive maintenance of equipment. Assignments are usually received in the form of orders to accomplish a specific task. Must be willing to work with others and communicate with workers and crew members to complete assignments. Supervision may be exercised over a small group of laborers.

Examples of Work:
• Operation of equipment such as dump trucks, back-hoes, dozers, etc. for repairs and construction.
• Operates a front-end loader in loading asphalt, gravel, sand, rock, slag, slurry and similar materials onto trucks.
• Assist and help other divisions in Public Works and other departments as necessary and/or requested.
• Ability to drive multiple vehicles including field tractors, tractor trailer combo while hauling heavy equipment, street sweepers, vacuum trucks, and also water trucks.
• Must be willing to work with or drive for the Sanitation Division, with necessary credentials.
• Performs related work as required.

Qualifications:
