Job summary

The City of Pocatello seeks a journey level Equipment Operator to operate light and medium equipment and perform maintenance for Street Operations or the Water Department. The role involves handling backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, and related tasks across two departments.

Responsibilities include flagging, basic vehicle maintenance, snow/ice control, and assisting in water line work; candidates should have a High School diploma or GED, a Class A CDL with endorsements, and relevant certifications.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Class A CDL with specified endorsements.
• Flagging certification.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
• In the Water Department, Class I Drinking Water Distribution Operator certification.
• Two (2) years of light and medium equipment experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates power tools and light/medium equipment including backhoes, loaders, dump trucks with trailers; other equipment may include sweeper, camera van, snow plows, and related equipment.
• Performs flagging and traffic control duties at work sites; performs basic maintenance on vehicles and equipment.
• Performs duties in accordance with City policies, procedures and safety practices.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.
• Street Department: maintains streets, storm drains and levees; patches asphalt, prepares road surfaces for chip/fog/microsealing; trims trees and clears brush; clears debris; transports materials; performs snow and ice control; trains to operate all equipment.
• Water Department: assists plumbers with water lines, hydrants, valves; installs meters; performs live taps; backfills and patches pavement; transports backfill materials; performs snow/ice removal; trains to operate all equipment.
