Position Overview

This part-year position in the Storm Water/Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department involves working 10 hours per day, four days a week (Monday through Thursday). The position is for a maximum of 10 months, with a focus on stormwater infrastructure maintenance and repair, and offers medical coverage options.

Compensation

Hourly range: $22.77 - $30.74, with a hiring range of $22.77 - $26.76, depending on experience and qualifications.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and repair stormwater infrastructure including sewers, inlets, manholes, channels, and BMPs.
  • Operate heavy and specialized equipment such as backhoes, loaders, dump trucks, street sweepers, and more.
  • Drive trucks to deliver personnel and materials.
  • Respond to emergencies like flooding and weather events.
  • Perform routine vehicle and equipment maintenance, including pre- and post-trip inspections.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience operating construction and stormwater maintenance equipment is preferred.
  • Valid Class B CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements.
  • Certifications in flagging, traffic control, and confined space are desirable.
Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of stormwater infrastructure maintenance and snow/ice control techniques.
  • Ability to operate light to medium equipment safely.
  • Strong safety awareness and record-keeping skills.
  • Flexibility to work odd hours, weekends, holidays, and respond to emergencies as part of an on-call rotation.
Physical and Environmental Conditions

Frequent strenuous physical activity, outdoor work in various weather conditions, and exposure to noise and heat.

Additional Information

This role requires a CDL and participation in drug testing. Employees must be able to reach the office within 30 minutes and are considered essential personnel during emergencies.
