Job description

Position Summary

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Experience Level: Intermediate

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
  • Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
  • Trench and construct ditches for culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
  • Check and maintain all fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
  • Instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, as well as job techniques and skills.
  • Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of the skills and abilities required for the position.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with management and supervision.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Constant movement around a construction/industrial site; ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Work in outdoor conditions with changing weather.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds to access equipment or work areas.
  • Move and work in confined and cluttered spaces, and on uneven surfaces.
  • Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Possess required tools.
  • Observe safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
  • Pass drug and alcohol testing, medical evaluation, and background check.
