Position Summary
Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.
Experience Level: Intermediate
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
- Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
- Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
- Trench and construct ditches for culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
- Check and maintain all fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
- Instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, as well as job techniques and skills.
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.
Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the skills and abilities required for the position.
- Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with management and supervision.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.
Requirements
- Constant movement around a construction/industrial site; ability to stand, walk, sit, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Work in outdoor conditions with changing weather.
- Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
- Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds to access equipment or work areas.
- Move and work in confined and cluttered spaces, and on uneven surfaces.
- Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
- Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Possess required tools.
- Observe safety and project rules; perform other duties as required.
- Pass drug and alcohol testing, medical evaluation, and background check.
