Job summary

Michaels is hiring for a Material Handler - Equipment Operator in the Jacksonville Distribution Center. The role supports inbound/outbound freight processing, loading and unloading inventory, and order fulfillment while ensuring safety and accuracy.

Candidates will use reach trucks or order pickers, perform routine equipment checks, and maintain production logs. A strong work ethic and basic math and computer skills are required for success in a fast-paced DC environment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • 2-4 years of prior use of manual and/or powered industrial equipment.
  • Basic warehouse knowledge and operations experience.
  • Basic computer skills and data entry experience.

Responsibilities

  • Operate manual and powered warehouse equipment to load and unload inventory.
  • Fulfill shipping and receiving orders using material handling equipment.
  • Complete periodic safety training and perform equipment inspections.
  • Document production logs and maintain accurate productivity records.
  • Assist in various DC functions such as receiving, labeling, putaway, order picking, replenishment and eComm fulfillment.

Job description

DC-JacksonvilleThe Material Handler - Equipment Operator may fulfill multiple roles in the Distribution Center environment to help fulfill overall mission to process Inbound and/or Outbound freight accurately, timely, and safely.

Major Activities

  • Utilizes manual and/or powered industrial equipment to load and unload inventory.
  • Utilizes material handling equipment (reach truck and/or order picker/cherry picker) to fulfill shipping and receiving orders.
  • Completes periodic safety training on the operation of machinery.
  • Performs routine inspections of equipment and notifies leader of maintenance needs.
  • May perform one or more of a variety of functions in a Distribution Center environment associated with fulfilling orders for retail stores and/or other Distribution Centers. Potential work assignments include Receiving, Labeling, Putaway, Order Picking, Slotting, Replenishment, eComm order fulfillment, Hybrid throwing, Loading, and other "specialty" roles that require additional training/experience (e.g., Inventory Control).
  • Documents production log appropriately to include changes in assignments, downtime, meetings, etc. to ensure productivity records are accurate.

Minimum Education

  • Demonstrated success working in a production environment

Preferred Special Certifications or Technical Skills

  • Reach Truck or Order Picker Equipment Certification preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting and carrying of product weighing 5 to 60 pounds
  • Frequent pushing or pulling of material and/or equipment
  • Frequent standing when working and when driving powered industrial equipment
  • Frequent walking, primarily in the warehouse
  • Regular reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling and twisting
  • Repetitive motion and substantial movement of the wrists, hands and/or fingers

Work Environment

  • Exposure to extreme temperatures dependent on external climate and proximity to dock doors/exits
  • Moderate noise level from DC conveyor/sortation system and powered industrial equipment
  • Occasional vibration if/when operating powered industrial equipment
  • Potential exposure to fumes and airborne particles
