Position Summary

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

1. Operate a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on various surfaces.
2. Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
3. Trench and construct ditches for culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
4. Check and maintain equipment fluid levels and lubrication.
5. Instruct and train employees in safe operation of construction equipment and tools, and in job techniques and skills.
6. Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.

Qualifications:

1. Working knowledge of the skills and abilities required for the position.
2. Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions; communicate effectively with management and supervision.
3. Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements:

1. Ability to move about a construction/industrial site constantly, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
2. Work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
3. Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
4. Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds to access equipment or work areas, and climb and maintain balance on various structures.
5. Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
6. Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
7. Move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
8. Possess required tools and possibly a US driver’s license.
9. Observe safety and project rules, perform other duties as required.
10. Pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, medical, and background checks.
