The Equipment Operator perform a variety of tasks, operating various types of equipment primarily related to the construction of telecommunications and a Fiber-to-the Home (FTTH) Network. This position will operate heavy to light excavation equipment as well as place and bury fiber pathways, including operation of horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment.
Education and Experience:
• High school diploma or equivalent, and at least one (1) year experience. Vocational school
training or apprenticeship preferred.
• On-the-job training offered. Must be available to work long periods including evenings and weekends when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to stand, walk, sit
• Ability to use hands to handle or feet
• Ability to reach with hands and arms
• Ability to climb and balance
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly, and up to 100 lbs as needed
• Ability to maintain all safety expectations
• Works outdoors for extended periods
• Exposed to extreme weather conditions
• Prolonged periods of operating heavy machinery
• Must be able to operate machinery in all weather conditions and terrains
Key Competencies, Skills, Abilities:
Extensive knowledge of heavy machinery operation and capabilities.
Ability to read building plans related to structural concrete and land grades.
Excellent mechanical skills.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to work as a team.
Oral communication skills.
