Job description

Under immediate supervision, performs routine semi-skilled work in the operation of motorized equipment; does related work as required.

Responsibilities:
  • Operates a tandem dump truck and other equipment in connection with the transportation of sand, stone, gravel, and supplies.
  • Operates a light truck in carrying tools, equipment, and supplies to and from repair jobs.
  • Operates a motor truck engaged in sanding and plowing icy streets and roads and in snow removal; occasionally services and performs minor repairs on equipment.
  • Operates a tar distributor used in road maintenance; as a trainee.
  • Operates medium or heavy equipment; when not operating equipment, performs semi-skilled work at the job site.
Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to completion of the eleventh grade and some experience in the operation of motorized equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Some knowledge of the principles and practices of operating and servicing trucks and related light construction equipment; some knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation; some knowledge of the occupational hazards involved and the safety precautions necessary to the proper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; skill and care in the operation of several types of trucks and construction equipment; ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.

Able to work 12-hour shifts 7 days a week during ice and snow removal.

License Requirement:

Possession of a valid North Carolina Commercial (CDL) driver's license.
