Job summary

Metzler Forest Products, LLC is seeking a full-time equipment operator to set up and inspect equipment before use, and to efficiently remove vegetation in cold weather or remote locations while adhering to safety standards. The role requires operating power machinery and following detailed hand signals and instructions.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED, a valid driver’s license, and preferably OSHA-10.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must have and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
• Experience operating forestry or construction equipment preferred.
• OSHA-10 certification preferred.
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems, processes and maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Set up and inspect equipment prior to operation.
• Operate equipment to remove vegetation in compliance with Metzler Forest Products, LLC standards, safety policies, and procedures while keeping the work area clean.
• Move levers, pedals, and dials to operate power machinery such as shovels, loaders, or backhoes.
• Receive written or oral instructions regarding material movement or excavation.
• Observe hand signals and other markings when operating machines to meet specifications.

Job description

Set up and inspect equipment prior to operation.Efficiently operate equipment to remove vegetation (trees and shrubs) in compliance with Metzler Forest Products, LLC standards, safety policies, and procedures while maintaining a clean work environment.Move levers, depress foot pedals, and turn dials to operate power machinery such as power shovels, stripping shovels, scraper loaders or backhoes.Receive written or oral instructions regarding material movement or excavation.Become familiar with digging plans, machine capabilities and limitations and with efficient and safe digging procedures in any given application.Observe hand signals and other markings when operating machines so that work can be performed to specifications.Equipment Maintenance – performing routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.Operation and Control – controlling operations of equipment or systems.Operation Monitoring – watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.Equipment Selection – determining the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job.Repairing – repairing machines or systems using the needed tools.Troubleshooting – determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about itEnsures company equipment is maintained and in good running condition by greasing and checking/ replacing fluidsOther duties as assignedHigh school diploma or G.E.D. equivalentPrevious operating equipment experienceBasic understanding of mechanical systems, processes and maintenance with preference given to experience and understanding of forestry or construction equipmentMust have and maintain a valid state driver's licenseMust be able to work out of town including overnightsOSHA-10 Preferred
