Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Diagnose trouble, dismantle, overhaul, reassemble, install, and repair equipment such as boilers, pulverizers, generators, turbines, valves, electric motors, pumps, boiler gauge glass, sootblowers, air compressors, preheater conveyors, tractors, carryall, and locomotive. Fabricate and install pipe and fittings per shop drawings or construction prints. Inspect, repair, or install insulation and coverings. Use monitoring equipment like vibration and thermal test tools to assess equipment conditions and perform single-plane balancing. Clean water jackets, inner and after coolers.
- Operate shop and portable machine tools, determining machining methods and producing measurements on simple contours. Perform general machine work with tolerances within plus or minus .002.
- Perform non-code electric arc and oxyacetylene structural and pipe welding, brazing, silver and soft soldering on equipment not requiring welding certification.
- Assist with dismantling, overhauling, reassembling, and installing electrical equipment. Obtain permits and ensure equipment is properly cleared and tagged before work.
- Perform carpentry, masonry, and painting tasks such as erecting scaffolding, building skids, repairing structures, hanging doors, finishing concrete, laying brick, leading major painting jobs, and maintaining tools and work areas.
- Operate and maintain mobile equipment, perform rigging and blocking (e.g., turning turbine shells, erecting/removing scaffolding).
- Inspect, check, and prepare plant systems and equipment for start-up/shutdown, perform local operations, assist with isolating equipment, and place clearance tags.
- Follow operating instructions, safety regulations, and maintain records. Assist in training other employees and report irregularities or abnormal conditions.
- Participate in fire-fighting, first aid, and emergency response training.
- Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Two-year Associate degree in engineering technology, industrial technology, energy technology, or equivalent.
- Two years of military experience or an Associate's degree outside this field plus:
- Performed duties and met qualifications of Equipment Operator Jr. and Maintenance Mechanic Jr.
- Able to pass required examinations (typically after 2080 hours as a Maintenance Mechanic Jr.).
- Thorough knowledge of plant equipment, maintenance practices, materials, tools, rigging, scaffolding, and construction.
- Ability to interpret complex prints and specifications.
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures.
- Demonstrated leadership and coordination skills.
Required Licenses/Certifications: Valid State driver license and other necessary certifications/licenses.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical demand level: Medium.
- Climb ladders/stairs, use fine dexterity, detect colors, hear alarms and equipment sounds, communicate effectively, work at heights, exert up to 50 lbs. of pressure, stand/walk up to 12 hours.
Compensation Data
Grade: U026-405
Range: $36.55 - $40.30 USD
The physical demand level is medium, involving exerting 20-50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10-25 pounds frequently.
