Position Summary

Operate one or several types of power construction equipment to excavate, move, and/or grade material.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Operate a variety of vehicles and large heavy equipment while performing maintenance and repairs on roads and rights-of-way, including loading, hauling, and dumping on smooth to extremely rough surfaces.
  2. Load gravel, dirt, and sand; smooth and grade roads; spread rock and gravel.
  3. Trench and construct ditches for installation of culverts, water pipes, and sewer pipes; remove silt and debris.
  4. Check and maintain all fluid levels and lubrication of equipment.
  5. Instruct and train employees in the safe operation of construction equipment and tools, as well as job techniques and skills.
  6. Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify errors, problems, or defects.
  7. Estimate sizes, distances, quantities, and determine time, costs, resources, or materials needed for work activities.
  8. Inspect subordinate's work for compliance with contract plans and specifications, point out deficiencies, and take corrective actions as needed.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with relevant experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge and skills related to the position.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Proficient in the safe and efficient use of electrical, hand tools, power tools, layout tools, and measurement tools.
Requirements
  • Ability to move about a construction/industrial site constantly, including standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Work in outdoor conditions with changing weather.
  • Work irregular hours, including weekends, overtime, and holidays.
  • Use ladders, mechanical platforms, manlifts, scaffolds, and climb on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds.
  • Work in confined, cluttered, and uneven spaces.
  • Complete tasks in noisy and dusty environments.
  • Move items weighing up to 50 pounds across construction sites.
  • Possess required tools and possibly a US driver's license.
  • Observe safety and project rules, perform other duties as required.
  • Pass pre-access drug and alcohol tests, medical, and background checks.
