Job Description: Heavy Equipment Operator

Proficient in the operation of complex and specialized heavy construction equipment involved in the maintenance and construction of County roads and city projects.

  1. Operate different types of complex, specialized/heavy equipment.
  2. Perform road maintenance or construction duties while operating equipment.
  3. Transport equipment and supplies to and from the job site.
  4. Ensure and maintain traffic control standards at the work site; inspect and manage precinct sign inventory and replacement.
  5. Perform routine maintenance on equipment or trucks and report needed repairs.
  6. Maintain job site safety standards.
  7. Develop work schedules, evaluate lower-level employees, and prioritize jobs.
  8. Order supplies as needed.
  9. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Note: You must complete the work history and education sections of the application to demonstrate the required years of experience and education; failure to do so will disqualify your application.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED plus three (3) full-time years of related work experience, or
  • Seven (7) full-time years of related work experience.

Additional requirements:

  • Class A CDL required upon hire.
  • Tanker endorsement required within thirty (30) days of hire.

Must have advanced knowledge of equipment operation and maintenance.

The selected candidate(s) must pass a pre-placement physical examination and drug test.

Upon hire, must provide proof of educational attainment during new hire processing.

Tarrant County conducts background checks, including criminal background, financial reports, motor vehicle records, employment, and educational verification. A conviction or deferred adjudication is not an automatic disqualifier; each case is considered individually.

Physical demands include stooping, bending, pushing, pulling, lifting objects up to 100 pounds, and exposure to hazardous chemicals, extreme heat, and cold.
