The City of Norfolk's Department of Utilities is seeking qualified applicants for an Equipment Operator III in our Water Distribution Division. The person in this role will be responsible for driving various types of equipment to and from job sites, transporting crew, and performing routine maintenance on vehicles.
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Work requires knowledge of basic operational, technical, or office processes, equivalent to four years of high school education or equivalent. Two years of experience as an Equipment Operator is required, with underground utility system experience highly preferred.
Valid driver's license is required; depending on assignment, a valid CDL Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement may be necessary. Certifications such as Sprayer Technician or CPR may be required. The desired candidate will possess a Class A CDL.
Pre-employment testing on backhoe operation may be required.
Work Location: Combined Operations, 1316 Ballentine Blvd.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
This position is eligible for a one-time $5,000 signing bonus.
This is an 'Essential' position; extended, rotating, on-call, night, weekend, and holiday work may be required in response to emergencies or severe weather.
