Job description

Terracon’s Construction Services involve environmental remediation, fuel service station closure, and renewable energy construction (testing, installation, and maintenance). Equipment operators perform site reconnaissance, confirm utility clearance, operate a variety of mobile equipment (excavators, backhoes, dozers, skid steers, graders, loaders, scrapers, compactors, earth‑hauling equipment, and others), and maintain operational integrity.

Essential Roles & Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competency in operating more than three types of mobile equipment.
  • Provide oversight on project sites to laborers in remediation and construction services.
  • Prepare daily field reports.
  • Maintain equipment integrity through pre‑shift and post‑shift safety inspections and daily reports; take prompt action for repairs.
  • Communicate regularly with project/site management on work status.
  • Meet with utility companies to verify locations are clear of underground utilities and conduct inspections.
  • Attend and participate in project meetings, including client and subcontractor meetings.
  • Act as a dispatcher or coordinator for lower‑level teams, scheduling work and maintaining production.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Support execution of project scope, budget, and workflow management.
  • Identify and address hazards, ensuring safe working conditions.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards; participate in pre‑task planning; report safety issues to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of construction experience.
  • Computer knowledge and proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong decision‑making/problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent time‑management and organizational skills.
  • OSHA trenching and excavation training (or ability to obtain after hire).
  • Knowledge of soil composition, testing, trench safety, excavation safety, damage prevention, pipeline support during excavation activities, and backfill testing.
  • Completion of Terracon Mobile Equipment Operator Competency training after hire.
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history (may be required).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 40‑hour HAZWOPER certificate, CDL, TWIC, and DOT medical card for remediation construction projects.
