What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $27.00 - $30.00 an hour. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

In this position, you can expect to report to work in-person either at the office or in the field throughout the City and County of Denver where needed.

What You’ll Do

We are currently hiring an Equipment Operator II for the Department of Transportation & Infrastructure’s (DOTI) Street Maintenance teams. The DOTI street maintenance team is responsible for performing manual labor to maintain and repair public streets, including tasks like patching potholes, crack sealing, cleaning debris, removing snow, operating heavy equipment, street sweeping, setting up traffic control measures, and ensuring the overall safety and functionality of roadways within a city or municipality.

Equipment Operators:

  • Operating Street Sweeper Equipment – Driving and maneuvering street sweeping trucks or other cleaning machines to remove debris, dirt, and litter from roadways.
  • Inspecting and Maintaining Equipment – Performing pre- and post-operation checks, ensuring the vehicle and its components (brushes, vacuum systems, water sprayers) are in good working condition.
  • Cleaning and Emptying Debris Hoppers – Regularly emptying collected waste from the sweeper into designated disposal truck.
  • Following Safety and Traffic Regulations – Adhering to traffic laws, wearing safety gear, and ensuring the safe operation of the sweeper in various conditions.
  • Reporting Issues and Maintenance Needs – Notifying supervisors of mechanical issues, needed repairs, or hazardous road conditions.
  • Watering and Spraying Streets – Using onboard water systems to suppress dust and improve cleaning efficiency.
  • Coordinating with Other Departments – Communicating with ROWE to ensure effective street sweeping.
  • Documenting Work Completed – Keeping records of routes cleaned, hours worked, and any incidents encountered.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

What You’ll Bring

Our ideal candidate will have some or all of the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Previous experience with street maintenance and other labor-related tasks.
  • Experience working in various weather conditions (snow, rain, heat, etc.) and environments (dust, fumes, etc.).
  • Knowledge of city of Denver streets/alleys and use of maps.
  • Desire to promote to other positions within the department.
  • Great attitude and effort.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate.
  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of general labor experience which must include two (2) years of experience operating light to medium sized equipment.
  • Education/Experience Equivalency: Additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the minimum education requirements.
  • License/Certifications: This job requires driving. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL 'B') with appropriate endorsements at the time of application.
  • Requires a CDL Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire.
  • Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
