Job summary

City of Evanston is seeking an Equipment Operator II in Recycling and Environmental to operate a range of sanitation and street maintenance equipment. The role requires 2+ years of related experience, a valid CDL with air brakes, and strong communication skills.

Work includes snow removal, litter pickup, and special projects with 24/7 availability for emergencies. The position includes operating packer trucks, street sweepers, loaders, and other heavy equipment, plus pre/post trip inspections

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school diploma or GED.
• Must possess two or more years of work experience in operation and handling of vehicles/equipment.
• Must possess a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License with air brakes endorsement and maintain it as a condition of employment.

Responsibilities

• Drives solid waste packer trucks (rear loader and side loader).
• Operates street sweeper and various trucks and equipment.
• Safely operates front-end loader and skid steer to load/unload materials.
• Performs routine preventative maintenance on trucks and equipment.
• Maintains safe operation and communicates effectively with team.
