Description

Equipment Operators are responsible for the operation of heavy equipment to assist in the construction, repair and maintenance. The position will be expected to assist other crafts in their down times which may include non-operating activities.

DUTIES:

  • Responsibilities include operating various power-driven construction equipment such as, but not limited to: Excavator, Roller, tractors, backhoe, bulldozer, motor graders, and front-end loader

  • Set up/operate production equipment in accordance with established guidelines and procedures

  • Have basic mechanical knowledge and illustrate the abilities to inspect equipment

  • Read hand signs provided by workers while moving, turning, swinging, lowering and raising materials with equipment

  • Read and interpret engineering drawings

  • May follow signal directions from a signaler in equipment operations

  • Make decisions based on variable standards

  • Will be responsible for all safety aspects of operating the equipment.

  • Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft supervisors and respond to questions from clients, managers and fellow workers

  • May be responsible for routine maintenance or repairs

Qualifications

SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • The ability to apply principles of rational system to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists

  • The ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and metrics; to calculate surfaces, volume, weights, and measures

  • Use formulas as found in Industry Approved Trade handbooks

  • The ability to read and comprehend safety signs and instructions in English; read and understand instructions in English in the correct use and care of tools and equipment; read and understand "Warning Labels" in English that are placed on various containers; also, read procedures in English in mechanical drawing and layout work

  • The ability to write reports in English with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar

  • Must pass specific Operator Test

  • Requires current valid driver's license

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work in extreme heat

  • Work in wetness/humidity

  • Work in environment of fluctuating ventilation

  • Work outside
