The Equipment Operator II is a position within the Environmental Services Department that involves the operation of the following; tractor, backhoe, bulldozer, skid steer, excavator, garbage truck and other land maintenance machinery in the performance of construction and maintenance of county facilities and grounds, rights-of-ways, roads, ditches, and other county properties and infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operates equipment.
- Operates light and heavy trucks.
- Performs routine maintenance on equipment as specified by the equipment manufacturer or as directed by the supervisor that includes but not limited to daily checks on engine oil, transmission fluid, filters and coolant fluid as well as other required maintenance.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
Equipment operated to include but not limited to:- Lawn, turf mowers, land and vegetation maintenance equipment, and brush cutters
- Small hand held equipment such as weed eater, edger, chain saw, pole saw, hedge trimmer and blower tractor
- Dump truck
- Garbage truck
- Rubber-tire loader or backhoe
- Mini-excavator
- Skid steer / bobcat loader
- Tractor with various attachments
- Excavator
- Bulldozer
- Backhoe
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS- Working knowledge of various types of heavy equipment.
- One year of on the job experience operating multiple types of equipment.
- Class B Commercial Driver’s License
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License at the time of hire or required to obtain their Class A CDL as a condition of continued employment within one year after hire.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS- Class A Commercial Driver's License with Tanker Endorsement.
WORKING CONDITIONSWork is mostly performed outdoors and subject to extreme weather conditions, exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment, exposure to high noise levels and characteristics typical of a solid waste landfill.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSWork is generally heavy in nature involving sitting, standing, bending, carrying, walking, and lifting, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Exposure to extreme vibration during operation of equipment.
