Job summary

City of Midland, Texas seeks an Equipment Operator I to operate a range of equipment including backhoes, dump trucks, and jet trucks, while supporting water and wastewater infrastructure maintenance. The role includes outdoor work, field troubleshooting, and opportunities for skill development within the Water & Wastewater Division.

Applicants should have a High School diploma or equivalent, a Texas CDL Class A license or must obtain it within 6 months, and Wastewater Certification Class I plus

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Valid Texas CDL Class A driver's license required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Must possess or be able to obtain Wastewater Certification Class I and Water Distribution D Certificate within a reasonable time.

Responsibilities

• Assists in loading and unloading transported equipment.
• Operates equipment used in daily Water & Wastewater Division activities such as backhoes, dump trucks, jet trucks and light equipment.
• Transports sand, stone and gravel and other materials to various worksites and transports tools to/from worksites.
• Performs maintenance, service and minor repairs on vehicles and equipment.
• Assists in constructing water and sewer taps using equipment like backhoes and jet truck.
• Assists in repairing and replacing fire hydrants and water/sewer lines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
