The City of Stuart is seeking a Maintenance Worker for public works operations. Responsibilities include operating various vehicles and equipment to maintain the city's grounds and streets. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent, a FL CDL Class 'B', and entails physical labor. The ideal candidate will be skilled in maintenance tasks and knowledgeable about equipment operation. Safety is paramount as this is a safety-sensitive role regarding substance use.
Under general supervision of the Public Works Director or Team Leader III, operates a variety of tools, automotive vehicles, light and moderately heavy equipment in the maintenance of grounds, streets, and other city property as designated. This includes operation of a bucket truck with a 65’ vertical boom reach.
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring screening for illegal substance and alcohol use.
Work is reviewed through observation upon work completion for compliance with work orders and established policies and procedures. Performs other work as requested.
Operates a wide range of vehicles including, but not limited to, front loaders, backhoes, bush hogs, trucks, trailers, tractors, bucket trucks, dump trucks, and genie lifts.
Trims vegetation for assigned parks; mows, trims, edges, and maintains parks.
Operates a variety of power and hand tools including mowers, weed eaters, shovels, rakes, pokers, all sizes of chainsaws, and paint machines.
Picks up debris and deceased animals from city streets to maintain the cleanliness of public areas.

Minimum qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent, one (1) year of experience in semi-skilled or skilled labor, including operation of moderately heavy vehicles and light to heavy equipment, as well as knowledge of chainsaw and pole saw use and proper pruning techniques, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must have a valid FL CDL, Class "B", or the ability to obtain one within 3 months of hire.
