Job summary

The City of Bellaire in Bellaire, TX is seeking an Equipment Operator in the Solid Waste division of the Public Works Department. This full-time, on-site role drives a sanitation vehicle, collects waste and recyclables, and transports refuse to the landfill.

Responsibilities include daily vehicle inspections, log maintenance, and adherence to city policies. A Texas CDL and at least 1 year of relevant experience are required. Emergency readiness is part of the role.

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED.
• Experience: 1 year of previous relevant work experience is required.
• Certifications/Licenses: Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License.

• Follow City and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Emergency response: essential personnel may be on 24-hour call-out for emergencies.
• Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Operational Duties

• Drive sanitation vehicle, collecting waste and recyclables.
• Efficiently pick up solid waste along assigned routes.
• Transport refuse to the landfill, following designated routes.

Solid Waste Management

• Operate trucks for the collection and transportation of debris to the city landfill.
• Perform tasks related to trash collection, ensuring the proper disposal of waste.
• Assist in recycling and disposal-related tasks.

Vehicle Maintenance

• Perform daily inspections and safety checks on assigned vehicles.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including vehicle checklists, trip logs, and repair reports.

Compliance and Policies

• Follow City and departmental rules, regulations, and procedures.
• Report to work free from the influence of drugs, controlled substances, or alcohol.

Emergency Response

• Essential personnel may be on 24-hour call-out for emergencies.
• Work overtime, including during emergencies, to provide essential services.

Contribute to the team effort by performing other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience: 1 year of previous relevant work experience is required.

Supervisory: No previous supervisory experience is required.

Certifications/Licenses: Valid Texas Commercial Driver's License
