Examples of Work Performed
  • Performs minor servicing work on equipment, such as refueling, lubricating, washing, and making minor adjustments.
  • Operates a truck and assists in loading and unloading materials.
  • Operates a small tractor with attachments.
  • Operates a jackhammer and air compressor.
  • Hauls sand, stones, cement, pipes, water, brick, or other materials.
  • Digs ditches and other excavations, removes stumps, and mows lawns; mixes concrete; collects litter or performs other laboring work as assigned.
  • Maintains, prepares, and sets up equipment used to flush, rod, and/or clean sanitary sewer lines.
  • Locates and uncovers buried manholes.
  • May function as backup operator or assistant to higher-level Equipment Operators.
  • Assists in snow removal operations.
  • The examples of work performed are not intended to be all-inclusive. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
Requirements of Work
  • Willingness to work under conditions that are sometimes unpleasant, where safety equipment must be worn and safety procedures followed.
  • Ability to maneuver into and onto vehicular equipment, perform fluid/filter checks, and maintain equipment as required.
  • Lift and carry up to 90 pounds independently; pull hoses, remove debris from manholes, operate fire hydrants, and work in various environmental conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, twisting, reaching, standing, and walking for most of an eight-hour shift.
  • Respond after hours, including overnight, in low light conditions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Acquire and maintain a Kansas Commercial Pesticide Applicator certification and a valid Kansas Class B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with air brake and tanker endorsements.
  • Work outdoors in inclement weather, including snow and ice removal, and operate equipment in adverse conditions.
  • Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others.
  • This position is part of a random drug testing pool, and employees are subject to random drug testing.
  • Offers are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and satisfactory criminal record check.
