A leading county environmental services department is seeking to hire an Equipment Operator to operate and maintain various equipment such as backhoes and dozers in the construction and maintenance of the landfill. The role requires a valid driver's license, with a preference for candidates with a Class B CDL. Applicants should be prepared to work in varying outdoor conditions, performing physical duties that may involve lifting and handling equipment up to 50 lbs.
Work is performed for the Environmental Services Department and involves the operation of the following; backhoe, dozer, compactor or scraper in the performance of construction and maintenance of the County’s landfill.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS-
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS-
WORKING CONDITIONS - Work is mostly performed outdoors operating equipment. Subject to extreme weather conditions. Exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment. Exposure to high noise levels.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Work in generally medium in nature involving sitting, standing, walking, bending, operating equipment, with moderate amounts of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling up to 50 lbs.
WRITTEN/PERFORMANCE EXAMINATIONS
No written or performance examination will be required for this position. Applicants are screened and certified based on an evaluation of their education, training, experience and other requirements as outlined in this Position Announcement and denoted on their Job Application and responses to the Supplemental Questionnaire.

MEDICAL EXAMINATION: As a condition of employment after receiving a job offer for this position applicants are required to pass a physical examination conducted by a licensed physician designated by Shelby County.
