Job summary

The Haines Borough is seeking a full-time Equipment Operator I/II or Operator Mechanic to safely operate heavy equipment and perform essential public works maintenance tasks.

Under the supervision of the Public Works Superintendent, the successful candidate must possess a valid Alaska driver’s license; a CDL is preferred and may be required after hire. Prior experience operating heavy-duty equipment is advantageous.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent
  • Must possess a valid Alaska Driver's license or obtain one before employment begins
  • Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred
  • CDL after hire if not in place at time of hire
  • Experience operating heavy-duty equipment preferred

Job description

Equipment Operator I/II or Operator Mechanic

The Haines Borough is accepting applications for a full-time, year-round equipment operator I/II or operator mechanic. This position is under the direct supervision of the Public Works Superintendent and will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and public works maintenance tasks, as directed.

Minimum Qualifications:High School Diploma (or equivalent); must possess a valid Alaska Driver's license or obtain one before employment begins. Alaska Commercial Driver's license (CDL) preferred. Position requires the successful applicant to acquire a CDL after hire if not in place at time of hire. Must be in good general condition. Experience in the operation of heavy-duty equipment preferred.

Wage & Benefits:The starting wage is $30.29 - $34.15 per hour (dependent on experience). Benefits include access to medical insurance, personal leave, PERS and SBS. Union eligible.
