The Equipment Operator I,II,III position presents a unique career opportunity to work in a progressive community experiencing tremendous growth. The City of Lexington is seeking a motivated, team-oriented individual to join our staff. The City offers a four-day work week (Tuesday-Friday), and the chance to drive many types of large equipment. Most of the services offered (refuse, recycling, yard waste) are automated, and vehicles are detailed by an outside vendor.

Recycling & Waste Equipment Operator I, II or III performs responsible skilled trades work in driving refuse collection equipment on an assigned route. Cleans and maintains equipment and assists with manual collections duties as needed. The purpose of this position is to ensure that trash, debris, yard-waste, recycling, etc. are collected and processed or disposed. This is accomplished by operating sanitation trucks and vehicles and picking up waste, and sorting recycling, changing out containers, moving refuse in the landfill, replacing containers.
Equipment Operator I
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License and good driving record;
• One year’s experience operating medium duty vehicles;
• Ability to attend work regularly.
Equipment Operator II
• Class B Commercial Driver’s License and good driving record;
• Two years’ experience operating medium duty vehicles;
• Ability to attend work regularly.
Equipment Operator III
Tuesday - Friday, 6:00 am - 4:30 pm. Paid bi-weekly.
Must share in on-call responsibilities within the department towork special events after working hours and on weekends.
