Reporting and Position Overview
Reporting to the Recycling Operations Supervisor, the Equipment Operator I (Recycling) performs general labor skills and provides support in operating light and heavy equipment involved in Recycling and Resource Recovery Operations.
Hours and Location
Hours: 2nd Shift: Mon-Fri 2:00pm - 11:00pm (overtime as assigned). Rotational Saturdays (approx. 1x/month) 6:30am-12:30pm. There is potential for overtime.
Location: Recycling & Solid Waste - 1419 Holland Road, Appleton, Wisconsin

Key Duties
- Receive training on loaders, roll-off trucks, forklifts, conveyors, and other equipment.
- Operate trucks and equipment supporting recycling, landfill diversion, and resource recovery programs.
- Operate recycling commodity balers for materials like paper, plastics, and metals.
- Support transfer station operations, including loading transfer trucks.
- Perform manual labor with hand tools and maintain cleanliness of equipment and facilities.
- Service and perform minor repairs on equipment, and document work activities.
- Conduct daily inspections and routine maintenance on machinery.
- Receive training on operating landfill equipment such as haul trucks, bulldozers, and compactors.
- Assist with landfill cover spreading, slope maintenance, and gas collection system installation.
- Perform traffic control and grounds maintenance tasks.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Experience with general labor and apprentice level equipment operation.
- Pre-employment drug testing and audiogram required.
- Within one year, obtain a valid Wisconsin Commercial Driver's License Class B with Tanker endorsement and ability to operate CMVs with Air Brakes; on-site training provided.
