Job description

Equipment Operator I for Public Works

Harris County, Georgia, with a population of 36,000 and located in west central Georgia along the Alabama border 60 minutes southwest of Atlanta and 30 minutes north of Columbus, is accepting applications for a full-time Equipment Operator I to work Monday thru Thursday, 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. This position operates equipment in the repair and maintenance of county roads and related infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. HSD or GED;
  2. Moderate experience in construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, sidewalks, driveways, drainage ways, and related facilities;
  3. Ability to operate machinery and equipment including loaders, rollers, mowers, street maintenance equipment;
  4. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license;
  5. Must possess State of Georgia Correctional Officer I Certification at minimum security level (to supervise and work with inmates) or obtain same at first opportunity class is offered after hire date.

The starting wage is $18.22 per hour, plus generous benefits including a five-year vesting schedule for retirement.
