Job summary

Astec seeks an experienced heavy equipment operator to work in our manufacturing environment. You will operate forklifts, payloader, crane, and Mach yard truck, and you will unload materials, move parts between departments, and support blast/paint areas.

Daily inspections and proper safety protocols are essential. Responsibilities include loading finished equipment, maintaining equipment, and training others in crane and payloader operations.

Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent certification is required.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in operating heavy equipment.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in the loading and setup of asphalt equipment.
  • Must have the physical ability to safely enter and exit the machine as required to perform essential job duties
  • Ability to safely operate multiple pieces of heavy equipment is required.
  • Knowledge of transportation requirements and freight compliance is required.
  • Equipment to be operated in all types of weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work satisfactorily as a team member.

Responsibilities

  • Transport parts and partially completed units to and from departments.
  • Transfer completed units or parts to and from blast and paint areas.
  • Maintain and arrange for maintenance of all equipment assigned.
  • Load finished equipment onto trucks.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections.
  • Proficient in all aspects of crane operation.
  • Observer and trainer for payloader operation and crane operation.
  • Operate Mach yard truck with proper airbrake use and wheel chock placement where required.
  • Move other materials and parts as directed by the Department Supervisor.

ABOUT THE POSITION

Work is performed under the supervision of the Department Supervisor and in cooperation with the Department Leader.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Manufacturing Environment

Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
