Job summary

The City of Lubbock is seeking an Equipment Operator to operate light trucks and a variety of machinery for maintenance of streets, parks, and public facilities.

You will perform routine maintenance on equipment, assist with mowing, sprinkler work, and litter removal, and support special tasks including landfill operations and funeral preparations as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of the tenth grade with 6 months to 1 year of experience in operation and maintenance of light motorized equipment.
• Physical Exam Required
• Valid Current Driver's License

Responsibilities

• Drive light trucks to haul supplies and materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, and caliche;
• Operate tractors, sweepers, mowers, front-end loaders, backhoes, and other machines of comparable size and complexity;
• Maintain and service equipment, machines, and trucks;
• Assist with mowing, edging grass, sprinkler system installation and maintenance, and litter/debris removal;
• Repair damaged fences;
• Care and maintain color beds and plant material;
• Direct trucks to unload at the city landfill, weigh truck, and collect landfill charges; keep routine records;
• Assist in the preparation for funerals;
• Perform related duties as directed.

Essential Functions

• Maintain and service equipment, machines, and trucks;
• Assist with various other activities including mowing and edging grass, installing and maintaining sprinkler systems, and removing litter and debris;
• Repair damaged fences;
• Care and maintain color beds and install plant material;
• Direct trucks where to unload at the city landfill, weigh truck, and collect money for landfill charges; keep routine records;
• Assist in the preparation for funerals;
• Perform related duties as directed.

Qualifications

Completion of the tenth grade with an additional six months to one year of experience in operation and maintenance of light motorized equipment; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:

Physical Requirements

• Continuously lift and carry up to 25 pounds
• Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds
• Frequently stand and walk during a shift
• Frequently climb ladders, stairs and inclined surfaces

• Continuously flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees
• Continuously rotate trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
