Job summary

Midland County is seeking an Equipment Operator I to operate rollers, dump trucks, rough loaders, and rough dozers for county road maintenance and construction in Midland, Texas. The role includes assisting in construction, repair work, and traffic control as needed.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least three years of experience, plus a valid CDL Class A with tanker endorsement. The job requires good physical stamina and teamwork in outdoor conditions.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or its equivalent, plus at least three years of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CDL driver's license and tanker license with Class A driver's license.
• Operate equipment used in road construction and maintenance; ensure safe operation and drive record compliance.
• Tolerate outdoor working conditions and follow safety standards to prevent hazards.

Responsibilities

• Operates rollers, dump trucks, rough loader, and rough dozer for county road maintenance and construction projects.
• Performs welding and minor repairs on equipment as needed.
• Assists in road base preparation, sub-grading, and pothole repair activities.
• Assists with traffic control, cleanup of drainage ditches, and brush removal.

Job description

Operates and maintains rollers, dump trucks, rough loaders, and rough dozer; assists in the construction and repair of county roads, culverts, and/or bridges; performs various work with hand tools; and occasionally operates other light and heavy equipment.

• Must be able and willing to operate all equipment an equipment operator I runs.
• Operates rollers, dump trucks, rough loader, and rough dozer for county road maintenance and construction projects.
• Performs work with hand tools, including digging trenches, filling excavations, mixing concrete, cutting down trees and brush, and removing driftwood and debris from culverts.
• Checks oil, water, fuel, tires, hydraulic system, etc., and makes appropriate adjustments to ensure certain vehicles are in proper operating condition prior to leaving for job site.
• Drives tractor-trailer truck, water truck, oil truck, pickup truck, or other truck hauling materials to construction or repair sites.
• Occasionally operates other heavy and light equipment, including rotary broom, patch truck, patching machine, combination water truck, backhoe, rough carpenter, and tractor shredder.
• Performs welding duties, including welding parts together and repairing broken or cracked parts.
• Performs tasks associated with bridge construction repair.
• Assists in road base preparation and sub-grading tasks prior to paving.
• Assists with clearing of brush, traffic control, and cleaning of drainage ditches.
• Assists with patching, tamping, packing, and leveling dirt, asphalt, or other materials during pothole repair, reconstruction of road shoulders, and crack sealing.
• And still perform the duties of Equipment Operator I.
• Regular and timely attendance is required.
